The Shire of Mountain Freehold is delighted to host the Crown Tournament of Their soon-to-be Majesties of the East, Fiamuin and Matthew, as they choose their Heirs.
The tournament will be held indoors, in a former hockey rink, on a concrete floor. If the weather cooperates, it is possible for the Tourney to be held outdoors. Please note that the indoor space is not heated. The site has some chairs but you may wish to bring your own. Pop-up tents for vigils are allowed. The site is dry (no alcohol) and pets are not permitted (except service dogs). For handicap accessibility, there are no stairs. The ground is a bit rough and uneven, inside and out, but we will provide ramps for the single steps and thresholds. Bathrooms are accessible. There are no showers.
We have also reserved a nearby barn for merchants. The barn is rustic, with a dirt floor, and few electrical outlets. You’ll need to bring tables and chairs. There is no internet network on site, but cell phone reception should be OK.
For mid-day sustenance, there are several options.
- Box lunches – the reservation deadline has passed – sorry!
- Additionally, we will supply some hot soups, by donation.
- There may be a food truck (burgers and fries) operating adjacent to the arena. This is not yet confirmed.
- The area has a good variety of eateries within a mile or two of the site.
- You may bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages into the arena.

Feast: No feast or dayboard. Various soups will be available while the supply lasts.
Hours: The site opens to the public at 9 am, and closes at 7 pm.
Location: Royce Mandigo Arena, Dana Ave., Rutland VT 05701.
Hotels: There are a number of good hotels in the area. Strongly recommended are: Hampton Inn, Best Western, and the Comfort Inn. Be aware that other hotels in the area may be used for Vermont’s homeless population. The event is less than 30 miles from the Killington Ski Resort, so there are a lot of Air B&B possibilities to explore.
Directions: Find your best way to Route 4/Route 7 (they run concurrently) in Rutland, VT. The Vermont State Fairgrounds is on the southern end of the town. To access the Royce-Mandigo arena, do not enter the Fairgrounds proper. Look for Dana Ave, south of the Fairgrounds but adjacent to it. Follow Dana Ave past some houses, almost to the end. You’ll see the Arena on your left. Main parking is just beyond the Arena. There is a Greyhound Bus terminal about a mile and a half from the site.
