April 10, 2025 – Business Meeting

Present (online): Kastana, Séamas, Leo, Æthelwulf, Stefania, Podrick, Alaxandr, Marieke, Hope

We reviewed the notes from our January meeting and then moved into New Business.

PURSUIVANT: Alaxandr has had one heraldic consultation this quarter, with a person from Panther Vale.

ARTS AND SCIENCES: Séamas said the monthly check-ins are going well. He’s getting the most responses via Discord, with Facebook being second and regular email being third. Our most recent A&S meeting featured Ābele getting her hands into the clay with several students and onlookers. Hrefna has agreed to host the monthly A&S sessions on the days Séamas can’t attend.

EXCHEQUER: Marieke reported that we’re getting closer to switching our bank accounts to the TD Bank. In order to satisfy one of the bank’s requirements, this meeting had to vote on approving a Corporate Resolution (text appended). The Resolution was presented, and it passed unanimously.

WEBSITE: Marieke had nothing much new to report, apart from routine updates following our yearly elections. Kastana is taking a web class and has some fun new features we could incorporate.

CHATELAIN: Leo reported that our Winter Renfaire went very well, with lots of interest and engagement, in spite of the last-minute reduction in our alloted space. We’re not yet sure what’s happening with our presence at the Summer Renfaire, which is the same weekend as Coldwood’s Opening of the Inne. Leo said it’s nice to see so many new faces, and younger ones, in our shire. For the Foresters, Vermont’s Green-Up Day (where the Foresters traditionally help out, in garb) is the same day as Rapier Crown Tourney, so it’s not clear what we will have on hand for local participation. And finally, there is interest in having dance practices in the shire, both for traditional SCA dancing and Middle Eastern dancing.

KNIGHT MARSHAL: Æthelwulf said participation in practices is picking up, now that the weather is better, and the last practice had enough combattants to actually hold some melees. He forgot to spend his $50 on padding but now he is reminded. A new set of Marshallate rules is coming soon. Sir Hákon’s marshallate paperwork is now in order.

THROWN WEAPONS: Stefania hopes to combine some thrown-weapon practice with archery practice, once we’re past mud season.

SOCIAL MEDIA: Kastana announced that the Shire Discord Channel is up and running. There’s quite a bit of lively chatter and it seems to be doing quite well. (This meeting was held via Discord.)

EVENTS: Mimir’s Well, in early March, went very well. We won’t be having a Feast of Fools this year. Our next regularly scheduled event is Birthday Bash. Stefania expressed some preliminary interest in that, and Kastana offered to provide guidance. There’s also the option of having a smaller, less formal event during the summer. Several shirefolk have expressed a desire to give away older SCAdian garb and chattels, and perhaps we could arrange a mini-event for that – or just bring items to a practice and label them for “giveaway” (as long as they are brought home by the bringer, if they are not taken.)

SHIRE INVENTORY: Marieke is working on the inventory of shire goods in her possession. Stefania also has various thrown-weapons items in her keeping.

The meeting concluded after about half an hour.
