Mimir was the Norse God of Knowledge, and he drank from an enchanted well at the base of Yggdrasil, the World-Tree, to become wise. So let us also drink from Mimir’s Well! Join us on Sunday, Feb. 22, for an afternoon of classes and socialization, at the St. James Episcopal Church at 4 St. James Place in Essex Junction, VT (same site as last year). The hall is open from 1:30-7 pm. The first class sessions begin promptly at 2 pm. Please note that this event is on a Sunday.
The entrance fee is by donation. Please consider that you are helping to cover the site rental fee as well as the dayboard cost. We can only accept CASH or CHECKS (made out to SCA Inc., Mountain Freehold). Some classes have a small materials fee, which will be collected by the teacher. Please bring cash for that.
We’ll provide a dayboard in the mid-afternoon. If you plan to enjoy the dayboard, please bring your own table setting (bowl, spoon, plate, mug.)
Of course, the event is all about classes! We’re getting them set up now. Among other things, you can learn about wool-carding, Chinese sword technique, decoding a Roman cypher, a round-table discussion for brewers, and much more. If you would like to offer a class or session, please contact Marieke, ckrupp@uvm.edu
We’ll choose our Mountain Freehold Champion of the Arts and Sciences at this event. Tofa geit, our current champion, has chosen the theme for the Competition: “Tools of the Trade.” A focus on the humble items that facilitate your art. Create a new or better tool for your craft. Beautify your existing tools. Learn new methods for caring for your favorite tools. Research the history of a particular tool or technology. Take the opportunity to learn a new craft! Do woodworking to make a fiber craft tool, or leathercraft a painting kit, smith a cooking implement!
We’ll also have an Arts and Sciences Display, so bring your best work to show off.
New folk are very welcome! – If you have questions about how to attend your first event, please contact our Chatelain, Lord Nickolai, at chatelain@mountainfreehold.eastkingdom.org. Please note that an attempt at pre-1600 clothing is required to attend an SCA event. We will have some tunics to loan, if you don’t have something suitable.
The site opens at 1 pm for set-up, and the Gate opens at 1:30 pm. The site closes at 7 pm.
